Bravo to 40 years of Theatre Collingwood

March 3, 2024

It was 40 years ago that Barbara Weider and a small team of like-minded individuals banded together to found Theatre Collingwood. From humble beginnings to the Collingwood cultural institution it is today, the organization’s raison d’etre has always gone beyond the simple programming of shows to a greater focus on bringing people together to share in the joy of community.

FRAM + Slokker, the development team behind Collingwood Quay Condominiums and The Shipyards Community, is proud to be the 2024 Presenting Sponsor for Theatre Collingwood. With roots in Collingwood extending back over 20 years, FRAM + Slokker has witnessed first-hand the value Theatre Collingwood brings to the community by creating memorable life experiences that families and friends can share together.

For its special milestone year, Theatre Collingwood has put even more thought into the programs and events it is raising the curtain on. “This year, we’ll be weaving captivating tales with the magic of music,” said Erica Angus, executive director of Theatre Collingwood. “Get ready to immerse yourself in the talent of Canada’s finest musicians and delve into intriguing narratives — all aimed at bringing peace and a touch of harmony to your life.”

Here are some of the events you can look forward to in 2024 at Theatre Collingwood:

March 7 & 8
Girls Nite Out

An annual comedy event that just gets bigger and better. Residents from Collingwood, Simcoe County and beyond are treated to a night of side-splitting hilarity featuring some of Canada’s funniest women including Jennine Profeta, Diana Frances, Karen Parker, Jordan Armstrong and Elvira Kurt. Come dressed to kill and aim to take home one of the night’s Best-Dressed prizes.

April 16 – 18
Brilliantly Bacharach

Burt Bacharach is widely recognized as one of the greatest and most influential songwriters of the 20th century. Amazingly, to date, over 1,000 different artists have recorded Bacharach’s songs. Theatre Collingwood’s “Brilliantly Bacharach” celebrates Bacharach’s legacy with performances of his all-time favourites such as “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again”, “What’s New Pussycat”, “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head” and more. The performance will be helmed by local icon, Dean Hollin, complemented by John MacMurchy, Sheri Weldon and the band.

May 7 – 10
With a Song in My Heart

Watch, dance and sing along as Leisa Way and her powerhouse quintet of exceptional musicians bring all those hits you love from the Great American Songbook to life. Expect to hear timeless tunes by Harold Arlen, Joni Mitchell, Johnny Mercer, Leonard Cohen, Willie Nelson, Irving Berlin, Paul McCartney and more.

June 11 – 14
How We Got to Jersey – A Tale of Two Frankies

Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons left a lasting impression on our ears, minds and hearts. “A Take Of Two Frankies” brings together Jeff Madden and Adrian Marchuk, who both played Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys, as they perform all the major hits that spanned Frankie Valli’s storied career.

July 10 – 31
Porchside Festival

If every cloud has a silver lining, the Porchside Festival is the silver lining that grew out of the COVID-19 pandemic in Collingwood. Born out of necessity and now a proud community institution, this year’s Porchside features 22 days of unforgettable performances, all in local backyards.
