Things to do in Collingwood this spring

April 8, 2024

With temperatures on the rise and beautiful blue skies, it’s safe to say that spring is well and truly here.

While there’s no such thing as a seasonal downtime here in Collingwood, there does still seem to be an extra spring to everyone’s step as we shed our downy outer layers and spend more time basking in the town’s parks, waterfront and retail vistas. Though there is no shortage of things to do in Collingwood in spring, here are five ideas to kickstart your season of rejuvenation.

Hop on a bike
Biking is an exhilarating and liberating activity in Collingwood any time of the year, but there’s something special about savouring spring on two wheels. The crisp air seems to energize and kick your endurance into another gear as you experience nature coming to life around you. The Collingwood Trail Network boasts over 60 km of recreational trails, most of which are ideally suited to spring cycling adventure. The 33 km Georgian Trail is one of Collingwood’s best day rides, featuring a generous wide path and invigorating views through forests and parks. The Collingwood Circuit, Clearview Collingwood Train Trail, Siding Trail and Georgian Meadows Trail are also highly recommended. Make sure to pack a pannier so you can peel off the layers and store them easily as the day and your excitement heat up.

Go birdwatching
This is the greatest season of the year for birding, with the spring migration offering many unique sights and the year’s most colourful variety of species. Collingwood and its surrounding environs can offer treasured glimpses of the American Bittern, Great Crested Flycatcher, Common Tern, House Wren, Brown Thrasher, Black-and-white Warbler, Red-shouldered Hawk, Downy Woodpecker, the vibrant Indigo Bunting and many others. Spring is also the best time to catch a glimpse of a Great Blue Heron, as the heronry on Nottawasaga Island is most active right about now. The best birding locations in Collingwood are on Hen & Chicken Island, the Collingwood Harbour lookout points, the Georgian Trail observation deck and Sunset Point Park.

Spring for a spa
Spring is the season of renewal and new beginnings; the time of year when we shed our winter layers and embrace the rejuvenating winds of a new season. One of the best ways to embrace spring’s warming, sunny rays of positivity is to treat yourself to some well-deserved “me time” at a spa. The Scandinave Spa Blue Mountain makes the ideal luxury escape, nestled within a 25-acre parcel of natural hardwood forest with expansive views of the Niagara Escarpment. Luxuriate in the Thermal Journey hot and cold immersions; discover “Shinrin-Yoku”, the Japanese art of forest bathing; and complement your day of bliss with a relaxing massage treatment.

Connect over coffee
Spring is the perfect time to stretch your social wings and get into the routine of meeting up with friends for morning coffee. Coffee get-togethers can play an instrumental role in connecting you with the community, keeping you mentally sharp and helping you catch up on the latest news and perspectives. Naturally, the morning caffeine boost can also kickstart your day physically, helping you feel more alert, energized and focused. Collingwood hosts an enviable selection of inviting, boutique coffee houses such as Gibson & Company and Espresso Post, the bike-friendly Summit Social House and of course the ubiquitous Starbucks on First Street just a couple minutes from your home base at Collingwood Quay.

Visit the Collingwood Arboretum
The Collingwood Arboretum is an all-seasons oasis just a few minutes’ drive from Collingwood Quay that features hiking and biking trails, sports/activity areas, a new pergola and water feature, and more. The Arboretum especially comes to bloom in spring with its Botanical Park complete with historical records (genealogy, habitat, common and botanical names) of coniferous and deciduous trees, shrubs and plants.

Another important event on the horizon later this spring is the launch of Collingwood Quay Condominiums. If you haven’t already registered your interest, register now to receive priority updates on upcoming sales events.
